Transforming communication to strengthen customer relationships

As a major player in the retail sector, Carrefour Belgium had access to a vast amount of data. Its goal: to unlock the full potential of this data in order to better understand its customers and deliver more effective, personalized communication. To achieve this, the company first needed to identify the right use cases and technical tools to put in place.

In a highly competitive market, the company set out to harness its data to gain deeper customer insights and engage with them more effectively.

An integrated solution to better understand and serve customers

Carrefour Belgium turned to Orange Business to build a program focused first on developing a solid technical foundation, then on seamlessly integrating its data into its marketing campaign tools. The result: sharper customer targeting, more tailored services that meet consumer needs, and a stronger competitive edge.

Enhancing data accessibility, visualization, and governance
Another key focus of the program was to improve data accessibility and visualization across the organization, as well as to strengthen data governance. In 2020, this initiative led to a new challenge: accelerating Carrefour Belgium’s data usage by migrating to the Google Cloud platform. Orange Business supported the company throughout this migration by designing a tailored cloud architecture and implementing targeted use cases to deepen customer insights.

Orange Business also brought valuable technical expertise—particularly in Google Cloud—thanks to data engineers trained specifically on this technology. With their support, Carrefour Belgium was able to execute the roadmap co-developed with Orange Business.

What made the difference?
For Gregory Pierquin, Chief Data Officer at Carrefour Belgium, it was the strategic guidance—and especially the sharing of cross-industry use cases—that truly set Orange Business apart.

Accelerating data usage to become a global e-commerce leader

With the support of Orange Business, Carrefour Belgium has been able to streamline its data usage while keeping costs under control and safeguarding customer data. These achievements have enabled the company to share relevant information and promotions more effectively with both partners and customers—marking a major step forward in its transformation into a global leader in digital commerce.

Building on this momentum is now the focus of its ongoing collaboration with Orange Business. Moving forward, Carrefour Belgium aims to accelerate its data usage to continue delivering differentiated services to its customers. Another key priority: optimizing internal processes to become a truly data-centric organization.
“Orange Business is here to help us deliver on both of these strategic priorities,” concludes Gregory Pierquin.

Simplifying data usage while controlling costs and protecting customer data.
