Orange Business has partnered with Quuppa to develop an innovative real-time locating solution that will be demonstrated at the IoT Solutions World Congress 2019 in Barcelona from 29-30 October.
The Orange Business Smart Tracking solution has been developed internally and has already been delivered to several clients in France and internationally. It includes both software and services for indoor and outdoor smart tracking and incorporates technology from partners, such as Quuppa.
Our innovative solution, named Smart Tracking, has been designed for locating assets in industrial environments in real time. The solution highlights our integration skills, vendor-agnostic approach and the power of co-innovation using several geolocation technologies: GPS, UWB and Bluetooth.
Our partnership with Quuppa is grounded on our team’s training and knowledge on their technology and our independent approach in selling, deploying and supporting the solution.
We are keen to highlight the fact that partnerships make a big contribution to our success. The partnership with Quuppa is the first in a series of new IoT innovation partnerships that Orange Business will announce in the near future.
We have an ongoing co-innovation program with Quuppa and are working on a number of industrial client projects on a scale that has not previously been achieved in France. We are currently testing Quuppa’s products and will be collaborating with them in the area of 5G.
Indoor tracking demo at IoT Solutions World Congress
The demonstration at the IoT Solutions World Congress 2019 is made up of two parts. The first part shows our cutting-edge solution in action as assets are moved in outdoor areas in real time at facilities in France and Spain. The second is a live set up of five locators and 20 tags at the event to showcase how the indoor tracking component of the solution works. These two geolocation systems will be presented on a unique software, Smart Tracking, provided by Orange Business and developed to cover a large scale of use cases.
The indoor tracking part of the solution uses the Quuppa Intelligent Locating System™. Their technology enables real-time tracking of Bluetooth® tags and devices down to centimeter-level accuracy, even for fast-moving objects.
The Quuppa Intelligent Locating System is already in use in a number of industries, including industry 4.0, healthcare, smart buildings and cities, sports, security, and hospitality and retail.
Quuppa is unique in that it uses Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) processing and advanced proprietary algorithms to provide real-time positioning data. This means that instead of relying on Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI), the Quuppa system measures the direction from which the tag's radio signal is transmitted. This provides superior accuracy and makes the system much more robust, even in challenging environments where objects such as containers and heavy machinery could otherwise interfere with transmitted signals.
Locators positioned around the site
In the Orange Business tracking solution, Quuppa locators are placed around the industrial site, and the tags attached to assets send data packets to mobiles, tablets or PCs via Bluetooth so that personnel can track their location in real time. A geo-fenced security zone can also be set up to send alerts if, for example, an asset leaves a zone when it should not.
Bluetooth is an efficient method for sending the tag data to the locators and a cost-effective solution as the batteries of Bluetooth tags can last for 3 to 4 years. The technology is also compatible with mobile devices and can transmit other sensor data together with the positioning data if needed. We work with a number of tag providers in this area.
