Act global, think local in IT says Gartner chief researcher

The future of technology delivery is not homogeneous, says Gartner's chief researcher. Peter Sondergaard, speaking at Orange Business Live in Amsterdam, highlighted that IT cannot continue imposing a global approach to devices, platforms and architectures because of the emergence of social computing and regional and cultural differences.

As new markets emerge - and become the dominant market as will be the case with China - we need to recognise that IT environments will be driven by users and customers (and not centrally). IT directors will need to get closer to their users, wherever they are, and recognise that 5 star service is just too much in some places. In some markets, that means 3 star service is enough. I talked to Sondergaard about how global companies must find a local approach and why a very heterogeneous view of IT is emerging.
